Literally. We got a certified letter in the mail yesterday notifying us that the house to our right is going to be demolished while we are away in San Diego. The house is 160 years old. When we moved here in 1990′s, the owner was the janitor at my daughter’s elementary school. He was a WWII vet, who was one of Patton’s drivers and he drove him during the parade for the Liberation of Paris. His wife and I traded veggies from our summer gardens. Hers way more looked after than mine. He had to wait to buy this house even though he paid cash because the woman’s husband would not sell it to a black person, so they had to wait till the guy died. Charlie and Hattie had no kids and they died within a year of each other about 6 years ago. They left the house to their church, which has rented it out since then. Now they are going to raze it, and who knows what is going to replace what was there. 100 years and change is a very short time.
So sad!!
I should post before and after photos, right?
Hmm, to satisfy our (my) curiosity, yes, but it would also make me more depressed!
That is too bad….but it is happening everywhere unfortunately. At least they are doing it while you are away and hopefully sparing you from having to hear it all happen. San Diego is such a pretty place to visit…lucky you
You are right, that noise is going to be something. I worry about our cars in the driveway, since we don”t have a garage. So exited about San Diego!
