I used to work for the New York City Public Schools. One of My favorite Bosses was a principal who had quite a temper but she worked extremely hard and would apologize sincerely and promptly if she lost it. She came from Jamaica and had a favorite saying that went along the lines of “the cow fattens (prospers) under the masters gaze” which to her meant that the teacher/employee seeks to please when they feel the boss is watching. I am constantly reminded of that saying when I practice yoga. I so want to show my teacher that I am trying to do my best. At the same time I dread, DREAD the feeling that she is checking me out or is about to come and correct/adjust something.
Is it distracting, or encouraging? cannot make up my mind about that one. I know for sure that if I did not need her supervision, I would have a home practice instead of a group practice. Case and point: last Friday she joined us for a led primary. She practiced AND counted the whole primary series for us and then thanked US for the energy she received. is that beautiful or what?
