I got so hooked on the effects of Yoga Nidra when it was offered as part of our monthly dues at my shala a couple of years ago. I felt reborn after each session. I even bought a guided CD online and the narrator has the most soothing Aussie accent. Yeah you read that right. So yesterday a saw this in the Sunday edition of The Nation and thought it would be nice to share because apparently you can create your own Yoga Nidra session. I however would find myself criticizing the sound of my voice and waste the entire session on judging the sound, like the real life disease of “does this make me look bad?” Better hire an expert with a lovely modulated voice until I heal a little more.
One of the teachers at our shala takes us through a 15-minute yoga nidra session after practice. Absolute bliss! In addition to the modulation of the voice, I think it’s also essential to have eye pillows….I find that it aids in turning the senses inwards.
…a silk eye pillow stuffed with crushed dried lavender.
I lead yoga nidra often and while it is about having a good “script” to help facilitate a wonderful journey into the subconscious mind…everyone always says it’s the sound of my voice that puts them in that place
I get as much out of speaking it, as I do laying down and receiving from someone else. It is a powerful practice for sure. I agree with D on the eye pillows
They are blessed! I have vivid memories of the voices of people that have guided be through the most soothing and deep states of relaxation.
I need to try this!
